Soaps and Sundries began back in 1999, when I realized that just maybe, I
had a knack for making soap! We were a homeschooling family back then,
and had just gotten our first computer, and I began exploring, and finding
such neat new resources for soap making! With this whole new world, I
started Soaps and Sundries. We've been in business now for almost 13
years, almost as long as Ebay and Paypal have been around, lol.
My daughters, Sara and Alba, and their father, Gabriel, still help with the
business. It takes a group effort to keep things going, everyone has a
part in it, and I praise God for that.
We have gone through a few changes, as well! We began attending a new
church over 2 years ago, Plainview Gospel Amish-Mennonite Church, and
since then our lives have undergone a great change! If we look a little
different now, yes, it's still me, Trisha, Sara, Alba, and Gabriel! :) Our love
for Christ has grown, as well as the blessings that he's given us. This is
the first time that we've begun sharing about our new faith, wanting to be
sure that this is where God wants us to be.There were some very difficult
things we had to face, according to Scripture. Gabriel and I separated
over 2 years ago, because we'd both been married before, and while
studying our Bibles, came to the mutual conclusion that we could no
longer be married. So Sara (my youngest daughter) and I now live in a
little house at the back of our property, while Alba (my step-daughter) and
Gabriel now live in the main house. We still all work together at the
gardening, the workshop, and both Sara , Alba and I do the canning
together whenever we can, which we enjoy! This is NOT a sad thing, we
have been blessed over and over again by God! Becoming Mennonite
may not be for everyone, but we are very, very happy with the direction
that God has led us!
If you would like more information about the Beachy Amish-Mennonites,
this is their main website: http://www.beachyam.org/
We still live as close to the land as we can, growing much of our own
food, earning our living from our goats and soap :), and living as healthy
as we can, as well.
There's been another change that most of us have gone through as well,
although perhaps not quite as joyful. Many of you who have been
customers for years, know that Gabriel and I have been sick for a long
time. In the last 2 years, Gabriel, Sara, and I have all been diagnosed with
Lyme Disease. Gabriel and I have Late Stage, Lyme, while with Sara, there
is joyful hope that she may live a normal life after treatment! We are
thankful to finally know what's been wrong with us, that was half the
battle! Alba doesn't have it, only because she hasn't been tested yet ;) .
Pennsylvania has the largest "population" of Lyme Disease anywhere, as
we have learned very well by now. I'll soon be having a page with
information about Lyme Disease, that might be of use to others. Lyme
Disease played a big role when we had to downsize Soaps and Sundries,
limiting our products more and more, but Lord willing, we'll be making our
Goat Milk Soap for a long time to come!
So that's about it, "About Us". Just thought I would bring us all up to date!
:)
